Jorge spent the last thirty years working in Houston, Texas, as director of chaplaincy services for the Harris County Sheriff’s Department (HCSD), one of the largest county jails in the nation housing over 10,000 male and female adult inmates. Jorge began his ministerial journey in 1962 in Union City, N.J. where he started a Spanish-speaking department at Calvary Baptist Church for newly arrived Cuban political exiles, while attending Bloomfield College, Bloomfield, New Jersey. Two years later, he moved his young family to San Antonio, Texas, becoming an associate pastor at Beacon Hill Baptist Church, and he enrolled at Trinity University. After earning his BA and MA both degrees in sociology, he continued his studies at OLLU. And even later, he completed his doctorate in the psychology and sociology of religion. His unpublished doctoral project was titled: The Religious Factor in the Rehabilitation of Criminal Inmates. The project planted the seed for the development of the volunteer tutoring program of Jack Colson’s Ministry. Jorge devoted his professional life to work within the three basic social institutions in the USA: Family, Education and Religion. He sees these three intimately interacting to develop life in society. So, he works to contribute to the efforts of the contingent working to strengthen this social foundation as a pastor, a teacher, a counselor and a writer. Fluent in Spanish, Jorge is the author of Extranjeros y Advenedizos. Editorial Caribe 1992 and La Familia en el Nuevo Milenio. Editorial Betania 1994. And he has authored numerous periodical articles for Houston Texas and Miami Florida, Spanish language publications. Jorge’s latest work in English is How to Develop an Effective Prayer Life. Religious Review and Booklocker 2006. In addition, Jorge is writer, publisher and webmaster of his website at www.religiousreview.com. An extensive background in sociology, psychology and social psychology afforded Jorge the opportunity to conduct numerous workshops and conferences on Counseling Psychology, Marriage and the Family and Social Ministries both in our country and abroad. And now, with extensive experience working with individuals, families and other groups, Jorge joins Champions Christian Counseling Center, where he will work with the rest of the staff to bring mental, emotional and spiritual relief to so many in need.
