Stages of Alzheimer's Disease
- Forgetfulness:
forgetting names, familiar objects
- Early
Confusion: Increased confusion, person gets lost going to
a familiar place, co-workers, peers and family observe person forgetting
names and words. Reading comprehension begins to deteriorate and difficulty
concentrating is noticed
- Late
Confusion: Decreased knowledge of current events, forgetting
personal history information, difficulty traveling and handling finances
- Early
Dementia: Inability to recall major life events such as one's
birthday, address, phone numbers or the names of immediate family
members, sometimes difficulty remembering the day's date.
- Middle
Dementia: Forgets name of spouse at times, unaware of all
recent events, does not know the season or year, person usually can't
distinguish between familiar and unfamiliar people
- Late
Dementia: Sever confusion, inability to talk, incontinent,
assistance needed in personal hygiene, eating, and inability to walk
