Suicide
What
are some of the warning signs of suicide?
- Depression.
- Isolation/withdrawal.
- Changes in sleep and/or appetite.
- Loss of interest in pleasurable
activities.
- Increased anger, frustration and
sense of hopelessness.
- Talking about death and dying; giving
away possessions.
- Writing a will.
- Taking physical risks, etc.
Are some individuals more prone to suicide
than others?
Some factors that increase the risk of suicide are:
- Chronic drug or alcohol abuse.
- Recent major loss or losses (job,
deaths of loved ones, etc.).
- Chronic or debilitating illness.
- Becoming elderly and losing independence,
health, etc.
- Being in the middle of a crisis.
- Impulsiveness (as seen in teenagers
or adults with low impulse control).
- A history of past attempts; the
suicide of a family member, especially a parent.

Remember that Suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary
problem. Therapy, medication and support can decrease
the likelihood of an attempt.
